The President has appointed senior advocate G. Rajagopalan as Additional Solicitor General of India in the Madras High Court for a period of three years.

The appointment is with effect from July 28, 2014, says a notification of the Ministry of Law and Justice.

Born in Thanjavur, Mr. Rajagopalan hails from a distinguished, long-standing legal family.

His father, late K. Ganesa Iyer was a leading member of the Thanjavur Bar, while his eldest brother, late G. Ramaswamy was an Attorney General of India between 1990 and 1992.

Enrolled as an Advocate in 1983, Mr. Rajagopalan has been appearing as senior counsel for various bodies including the Election Commission of India, the Tamil Nadu State Information Commission, the Union Public Service Commission and the Delimitation Commission.
